WHY SHOULD I TRAIN DURING THE SEASON?
Every year the same thing happens; athletes put in a ton of work during the off-season. They train 1-2x per day. They hit the weights and lock-in on strength, conditioning, speed & agility. They play for their travel teams, practicing 2x per week and go to tournaments on the weekends. They hit open gyms for pick-up with teammates and friends. And these athletes are playing their BEST BASKETBALL. They don’t complain about being sore. Or tired. Or that they are doing too much. And then November hits, and athletes STOPdoing all the “extra” work with the exception of practice.
“Sorry, it’s just too much to keep training while INSERT NAME HERE has practice 5-6x a week.”
“I don’t want to be sore before my game(s) this week.”
“I don’t want to over-train during the season.”
And then these athletes hit their mid-season slump. And that’s when we start getting the texts and calls about how their jump shot is off or they are turning the ball over. That’s because the “extra” work is NECESSARY work. Think about how many individual reps you are getting at practice. Your coach isn’t focused on keeping you sharp; they are focused on executing offensive and defensive strategies. Maybe focused on conditioning to a certain extent. Definitely not focused on maintaining any type of strength you may have added during the off-season. And that’s understandable, but that means that it’s up to YOU to focus on YOU during the season while your coach focuses on the TEAM.
Stop making excuses. Stay in the gym this season with the Season Pass!
NOTE: Season Pass used to be an exclusive training package with Coach D. This is no longer the case, as we have decided to open up a Discounted Training Opportunity to all JV & Varsity Athletes to keep them sharp during the season. Coach D will still be running many of the Ball Handling Group Sessions as well as the Saturday Clinics when he’s in town.
